Dear Mr. Stolz:
On December 2,1983 Toledo Edison submitted an exemption request (Serial No. 1005) f rom the requirements of 10 CFR 50.54 (m)(iii) concerning Licensed Operators Staffing at Nuclear Power Units, for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station Unit No. 1.
On March 13, 1984 Toledo Edison participated in a conference call with your Mr. Al DeAgazio and Mr. Larry Crocker. As a result of that call Toledo Edison is submitting the following information to support our exemption request:
The Davis-Besse Station Superintendent will issue a Standing Order directing SRO license holder coverage of the Control Room Panel Area for more than half of any shift. The SRO license holder will also be directed to be present in the Control Room Panel Area whenever he is not required to be in the Shif t Supervisor's office or in the plant to perform his duties.
This additional information is provided to support our exemption request.
This letter and our original exemption request should be considered together and, Toledo Edison feels, should provide sufficient justification to grant the requested exemption.
