MONTHLY NARRATIVE REPORT l 0F OPERATION AND MAJOR MAINTENANCE EXPERIENCE This report describes the operating and major maintenance experience for the month of February,1984. This narrative report was prepared by the plant staff and is submitted in accordance with Section 6.9.1.10 of the Plant Technical Specifications.

On Monday, February 20th, the plant entered Mode 4 (Hot Shutdown). System walkdown inspections were conducted during heatup operations. Interference was observed on a pipe support on the Residual Heat Removal system. Plant temperature will be held at 340*F until repairs are completed on this pipe support.

On a routine inspection of Unit 1 Containment, it was discovered that the stator windings of Reactor Coolant Pump (RCP) 1-3 were damaged by debris entering the

, pump motor during operation. RCP 1-3 has been removed from service and the motor shall be exchanged with an RCP motor from Unit 2.

On February 8th, the Electrical Maintenance Department began an overhaul program of 4.16KV General Electric Magne-Blast circuit breakers. A potential generic defect of these circuit breakers was reported to the NRC Operations Center on February 17, 1984. A followup written report will be submitted to the NRC by March 19, 1984.

No challenges to the PORV's or safety valves have been made.. Furthermore, no changes have been made in the Offsite Dose Calculation Procedure, the Environmental Radiological Monitoring Procedure, or any radioactive waste treatment systems.
