Dear Mr. Gagliardo:
On December 8, 1983, Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) reported a potential 10CFR50.55(e) matter concerning the interpretation of code welding subsection classification. Additional information was subsequently provided in the Reference.
KG&E's investigation of this matter revealed that the existing con-ditions resulted from a misinterpretation of the code subsection for the welds identified in the Reference. All of the identified welds have subsequently been dye penetrant tested and found acceptable.
Therefore, the existing condition would not have adversely affected safety of operations had it gone undetected. As a result of these findings, KG&E has concluded that this matter is not reportable pursuant to 10CFR50.55(e).
