In Reference (d), we filed an Interim 10CFR50.55(e) Report regarding cracked capstan springs in Pacific Scientific mechanical shock arresters.
The following information 1; being filed pursuant to the interim reporting provision of 10CFR50.55(c)(3). The reportability of this item remains under evaluation.
We are returning all forty-eight PSA-1 and PSA-3 mechanical shock arret ters to Pacific Scientific for examination.
If cracked springs are discovered, they will be replaced and the shock arresters will be tested and rece rtified.

This report provides the basis for Pacific Scientific's position that the subject capstan springs will still meet theic design specification requirements. The report is based on an independent metallurgical evaluation and subsequent Pacific Scientific testing.
The above actions are scheduled to be completed by May 30, 1984, a t whi ch time we will report our findings to your office.
