GEORGIA TECH. NUCLEAR REACTOR k As a native Atlantan and a Georgia Tech. graduate, I am concerned about the  !

danger for the safety of everyone posed by the Neely Nuclear Reactor located on the Georgia Tech campus within 1/4 mile of the 1996 Olympic Village. The reactor is old, poorly protected, and has a history of leaks and regulatory violations.

When the Olympics were held in Los Angeles 10 years ago, the University of 1 California considered the possibility of terrorism and elected to shut down the UCLA reactor and removed radioactive material from the area. Although terrorism

]

is now a much greater threat, the Atlanta Olympic Committee and the University have chosen to ignore the problem. l I

We are therefore asking you, President Clinton, to issbe an executive order to close the Georgia Tech Neely Reactor and remove all nuclear material from the city.

This action seems imperative for the safety of ali the people converging {

on Atlanta especially at the time of the 1996 Olympics;and for Atlantans at all times.
