1 PHILADELPHIA ELECTRIC COMPANY 2301 M ARKET STREET P.O. BOX 8699 PHILADELPHI A PA.19101 SHIELDS L. DALTROFF SLECfm C Pm O C tose February 21, 1984 Docket No. 50-277 Dr. Thomas E. Murley, Administrator Office of Inspection and Enforcement U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission 631 Park Avenue King of Prussia, PA 19406

SUBJECT:

Supplement IV to Peach Bottom Unit 2 Response to IE Bulletin No. 83-02.

REFERENCE:

Letter to Dr. T. E. Murley from J. W.

Gallagher, dated November 18, 1983, (Supplement III to Peach Bottom Unit 2 Response to IE Bulletin No. 83-02).

Dear Dr. Murley:

This supplement to the above referenced letter of November 18, 1983,J. W. Gallagher, PECo, to Dr. T. E. Murley, NRC, provides revised and more definitive information to our response to I.E.Bulletin 83-02 for our Unit 2 Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station facility.

The enclosed Attachment A " Recirculation, Residual Heat Removal Shutdown Cooling, Head Spray Line, Reactor Water Clean-Up Line, and Core Spray Line Piping Weld Information (Revision 2)" contains, in tabulated form, the weld information requested by I.E.Bulletin 83-02, Item 3 of Actions to Be Taken by Licensee, susceptibility matrix.

This enclosure supersedes the Attachment A,

" Recirculation, Residual Heat Removal Shutdown Cooling, Head Spray.Line, Reactor Water Clean-Up Line, and Core Spray Line

~ Piping Weld Information (Revision 1)" submitted as part of the

- above referenced letter of November 18, 1983.

Me revised the tabulation included within Attachment A (Revisien 1) following the discovery by our technical staff that we had mistakenly identified the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) safe ends in the

-Recirculation and Core Spray piping systems as low carbon 304 B403090001 840221 O

Dr. T. E. Murley February 21, 1984 I.E. Bulletin No. 83-02 Page 2 of 2 Stainless Steel, when, in fact, the RPV safe ends are low carbon 316 Stainless Steel.

Since NUREG-0313, Rev. 1,Section III.A.1 has identified both low carbon 304 Stainless Steel and low carbon 316 Stainless Steel as corrosion-resistant materials, Philadelphia Electric Company has concluded that the significance of this misidentification is of minimal consequence.

As part of this submission, we have taken the opportunity to identify more precisely the carbon content of the RPV safe ends -in the column " CARBON CONTENT, found within TABLE I - PBAPS UNIT 2 - PIPING / WELD DATA, of the enclosed Attachment A (Revision 2).

Table I of Attachment A (Revision 1) in our above referenced submittal of November 18, 1983 had designated the carbon content of the RPV safe ends as "less than 0.025 percent".

The location (by page number) and identification (by weld number) of the revisions to the enclosed Attachment A (Revision 2) are as follows:

Page Number Weld Number 1 of 60 2-AS-1; 2-AS-2 3 of 60 2-AHK-4; 2-AHJ-4; 2-AHH-4 4 of 60 2-AHG-4; 2-AHF-4; 2-AHK-5; 2-AHJ-5; 2-AHH-5; 2-AHG-5 2-AHF-5 5 of 60 2-BS-1, 2-BS-2 7 of 60 2-BHA-4, 2-BHB-4; 2-BEC-4; 2-BHD-4 8 of 60 2-BHE-4; 2-BHA-5; 2-BHB-5; 2-BHC-5; 2-BHD-5; 2-BHE-5 16 of 60 14-A-27; 14-A-43 19 of 60 14-B-27; 14-B-41 Should you have any questions or require additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
