Dear Mr. Moseley:
In our letter of December 16, 1974, Serial No. 321, we forwarded Abnormal Occurrence Report No. A0-S2-74-09, " Steam Generator Support Couplings." Reported herein is a correction to the report.
On page 12 of the aforementioned report it is stated that the stud which had been cut off to facilitate the removal of the inboard coupling on Unit No. 2 would be welded to the end plate.
Because of potential welding problems this was not done. As indicated in the report, analyses verify that this does not significantly affect the design function of the coupling since the remaining nine studs can withstand the design loads.
Regulatory staff members were made aware of this change in a meeting held in Bethesda, Maryland, on January 7, 1975. Members of your Staff were advised of the action during the installation of the couplings. The purpose of this letter is to update the record.
