License Number DPR-44/56 Environmental Technical Specifications 2.1 Report No.: 50-277/278-75-6 Report Date: March 2, 1975 Deviation Date: March 1, 1975 Facility: Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station Units 2 and 3 R.D. 1, Delta, Pennsylvania 17314 Identification of Deviation:

Loss of the second fan on the 'C' cooling tower.

Conditions Prior to Deviation:

Units 2 and 3 both operating essentially at full power.

Description of Deviation:

With the tower in service, the 'H' fan motor was observed to be vibrating excessively, and thrcwing oil from its inboard bearing.

The 'D' fan was not in service due to a previous bearing box failure.

1 Analysis of Deviation:

Since there were nine of eleven f ans runninc., there were ru) significant . environmental consequences as a result of the inoperability of this fan. The water temperature leaving the tower changed only slightly. River' flows during this period were -in excess of 70,000 cfs.

_ Corrective Action:

The 'H'- fan motor was replaced on 3/5/75 i Failure Data:

Environmental Deviation Reports 50-277/278-74-2, 50-277/278-75-1, and 50-277/278-75-2.
