Failure of the temperature sensor, TE-3-12-98, which provides the temperature signal to the Reactor Water Cleanup System High Tempera-ture Isolation Switch.
Conditions Prior to Occurrence:
Unit 3 at full power.
Description of Occurrence:

During a routine instrument surveillance test,.it.was discovere'd that there was no temperature input to the RWCU High Temperature Iso-lation Switch.

Failure of the temperature element primary sensor.
Analysis of Occurrence:
Safety significance of this incident is minimal.
The function of this switch is to prevent damage to the demineralizer resin from high temperature by isolating the system when the demineralizer inlet water temperature reaches 140 F.
Corrective Action:
The reacter water cicanup system was isolated and the de-fcctive temperature sensor was replaced.
The sensor was checked 'against an adjacent sensor to prove its operability and then the switch was calibrated in accordance with the applicable surveillance test pro-cedure. The reactor water cleanup system was then returned to service.
Failure Data:
No previous f ailures of these temperature elements.
