Subject:

Catawba Nuclear Station Units 1 & 2 Docket Nos. 50-413, 414 Supplement 1 to the Proposed Technical Specification Amendment Which Modifies the Requirements for Fuel Assemblies in the Design Features Section of Technical Specifications in Accordance with Generic Letter 90-02, Supplement 1 Gentlemen:

By letter dated June 17,

1993, Duke Power Company submitted a proposed amendment to the Technical Specifications (TS) for Catawba Nuclear Station which modified the requirements for

" Fuel Assemblies" in the Design Features Section of TS in accordance with Generic Letter 90-02, Supplement 1.

Subsequently, during conversations with a member of your staff, it was requested that the reload fuel maximum enrichment be retained in the

" Fuel Assemblies" section of TS and that the enrichment be updated to 5.0 weight percent U-235 (justification for the enrichment increase to 5,0 weight percent U-235 was provided in a Catawba Nuclear Station TS amendment submittal dated September 19, 1994).

Also,

" cylindrical" will be added prior to "zircaloy" in the second sentence of the paragraph so that the wording will be the same as in 10 CFR 50.46.

Attached, find the revised marked-up TS pages which will supercede the marked-up TS in the original submittal.

The Technical Discussion, No Significant Hazards and the Environmental Impact Analysis contained in the original submittal remain valid.

Duke Power requests a timely review and approval of the proposed TS revisions.
