Abnormal Occurrence No. A0-75-03 (24 Hour Report)

Dear Sir:

?

f As defined by Technical Specifications for the Vermont Yankee Nuc1 car vnuar n e n H..n. nc,tfon 6.7. we are reporting the following Abuormal

. Occurrence as A0-75-03 and confirming our telephone conversation with l

.,your office.

At approximately 0930 on February 4, 1975, while performing a monthly.

functional tcat on the Core Spray System, the-Core Spray System Pump Discharge Pressure sensor PS-14-44A actuated at 82 psig.

Table 3.2.1 of the Technical Specifications requires that the trip level setting of tiiis censor be set at >100 psig.

Failure of this sensor to actuate at the specified trip level setting resulted in fewer operable instrument channels-per trip system than that required by Tabic 3.2.1 cf the Technical Specifications.

Functionally, this sensor operates as a pressure permissive

]

in the Automatic Depressurization System indicating the fact that a core

{

spray pump is running.

j The sensor was immediately replaced and the trip icvel setting adjusted

~

'to,110 +5 psig which precluded the necessity of performing the ' action

[.

specified in Note 2 of Tabic 3.2.1 of the Technical-Specifications. The plant was operating at full power at the time of the discovery of this e

occurrence.
