By recent letter (Reference 1), GPU Nuclear provided an assessment of the thyroid dose to the control room operators subsequent to a design basis LOCA.

We prepared this assessment in response to a NRC staff request (Reference 2),

independent of NUREG-0737, Item III.D.3.4.

From our assessnfent, the calculated thyroid dose is highly dependent on the model for the MSIV leakage and the credit taken for iodine depletion before reaching the ralease point.

Since the NRC staff is reviewing this model under Generic Issue GIC-8, the resolution of the GIC-8 is germane to any technical discussion of the thyroid dose to the control room operators.

On that basis, we agree to provide our detailed evaluation of the total thyroid dose to the control room operators due to a postulated design basis LOCA upon the staff resolution of GIC-8.- This detailed evaluation will identify the assumptions for control room parameters, dose model and leakage pathways in the thyroid dose calculations.
