Telecen between BG&E and NRC Operations Center, on November 7,1991 Gentlemen:
The purpose of Reference (a) was to retract two previous calls made in accordance with 10 CFR 50.72. Both of the calls were made after Calvert Cliffs Unit 2 experienced spurious Auxiliary Feedwater (A13V) actuations. The first actuation occurred on October 23,1991 as operatots were attempting to energi/c the Auxiliary Feedwater Actuation System (AFAS) "A" Actuation Cabinet.
The second actuation occurred on October 25,1991 while operators were performing a test on the "B" AFAS Cabinet.
In both cases, Unit 2 was in MODE 5 (COI.D SilUTDOWN) with both Steam Generators in wet lay up and the A13V system isolated. No water was injected after either actuation.
After further review of the reportability guidelines set forth in NUREG 1022, we have determined that because the AITV system was incapable of performing its intended function, these AFAS actuations are not reportable.
