DPR-25, DRESDEN NUCLEAR POWER STATION, UNIT 3, LEITER IN LIEN OF TELEGRAM DUE TO WESTERN UNION EMPLOYEE STRIKE PER SECTION 6.6. A.1 0F THE TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS CONFIRMING TELEPHONE CONVERSATION WITH MR. E. A. JORDAN ON JULY 11, 1971.

Dear Mr. Grier:

A High Pressure.Co61 ant Injection (HPCI) test was scheduled as part of the startup test program for Dresden Unit 3 with the reactor pressure at about 350 psig.

While the HPCI test was being set up, at 9:30 P.M. on July 10, 1971, it was found that the HPCI turbine stop valve would not reset.

The trouble was traced to a limit switch on the HPCI turbine control valve which was improperly positioned. The limit switch was adjusted by midnight on the same date and a successful test was run on the HPCI at 12:30 A.M. on July 12,19/1 The HPCI was last successfully run on July 6,1971.and it is felt that the limit switch went out of adjustment at the conclusion of the test.

A further report will be made in accordance with Section 6.6.B.2 of the Technical Specifications.
