Dear Mr. Keppler:
On October 3, 1983, a 24-hour report notification was made relative to the incorrect installation of our Containment Hydrogen Monitoring System. At that time we informed you that the component cocling water supply and return piping for the Containment Hydrogen Sampling System sample pumps and sample cooling coil were reversed.
This condition was subsequently reviewed by our Corporate Engineering Department who have deemed that the Nash vacuum pumps and the Beckman hydrogen analyzer would have fulfilled their intended function of monitoring the hydrogen gas concentration in the containment atmosphere following a LOCA. The results of our calculations have been reviewed with the manufacturer and they have concurred with our findings.
On October 5, 1983, this system was modified and is now installed correctly.
Based on our engineering study and the fact that the system would have performed its intended function, we are rescinding our 24-hour notification. No further report is deemed necessary at this time.
