Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant - Units 1 and 2 Fire Protection - 10CFR50, Appendix R Gentlemen:
In letter dated July 1,1982, Alabama Power Company transmitted the Farley Nuclear Plant design description for Alternative Shutdown Capability for NRC review. This design description outlines modifications to Farley Nuclear Plant to satisfy 10CFR50, Appendix R, Section III.G.3.
During the development of the final design, Alabama Power Company has identified an inaccuracy in this design description.
Section BB.II.A of the design description states that the means for condensate storage tank level indication to be used during alternative shutdown actions resulting from a fire in the main control room or cable l
spreading room would be a local mechanical indicator. Alabama Power Company has determined that this local mechanical level indication is not installed on the condensate tank but is installed on other tanks.
l Alabama Power Company will install a condensate storage tank level indication on the Farley Hot Shutdown Panels at each unit or locally on the tanks and revise the design description to reflect its addition.
The installation will be in accordance with the schedule for Alternative Shutdown Capability presented in Alabama Power Company letter dated June 18, 1982.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission Page 2 The design for the level indication will be in accordance with the applicable design criteria / standards presented in the design description transmitted July 1,1982 so as to satisfy the provisions of Appendix R,Section III.G.3 and NRC Generic Letter 81-12, dated February 20, 1981.
This will include appropriate associated circuits analysis, development of procedures to perform the alternative shutdown actions, and preparation of appropriate design documentation including system design and electrical schematic drawings.
