' ABWR Control Room Design implementation Procen Proprietary Information,' MFN No.13191, dated October 22,1991 Enclosed are thirty-four (34) copies of a discussion of the design implementation process which
- will be followed per the comprehensive program established for the design development, implementation and validation of the ABWR Man-Machine Interfac- (MMI).' This annotated discussion of the'ABWR MMI design implementation process is provided as agreed in the September meetings, which were held here in San Jose, regarding Chapter 18 of the ABWR
- Standard Safety Analysis Report (SSAR).
- Included within the attached text are suggested NRC Conformance Review ictivities and.
- associated acceptance criteria. The identified acceptance criteria are intended for generic.
application and, therefore, are absent of vendor c equipment specific details. If, after reviewing this material,' it is determined that further meetings of NRC and GE management are necessary to discuss the level of detail in these acceptance criteria, please let us know.
The table and figure presented in the. attached material contain~ information that is designated as

18E.1 1 Description of Process Elements
18 E.1 INTRODUCTION Section 18.3 describes a comprehensive prograrre plan for the design development, imptomentation and validation cf the ABWR Man-Machine Interface (MMI). This program also assures integration between the control room MMI and plant systems designs. The requirements for this structured program are documented in a set of plans and irnplementation procedures (listed in Se:: tion 18.3). This appendix provides an illustration of the control room MMI implementation process, as specified by the program plans and procedures. This information is intended to supplement the requirements specified in the program documents. In all casas, the program plans and procedures shall take precedence over the information provided in this appendix.
Figure 18E.1-1 is a simplified diagram of the MMI implementation process. This process is highly iterative, with many feedback loops and redesign or revalidation steps. Only the major design and implementation acuvities are depicted on Figure 18E.1-1; many feedback loops and quality assurance activities have been omitted in order to ma.ximize comprehension of the information presented.
Tabic 18E.11 provides a summary description of the design and implementation process activities, the outputs of each activity and the relatior: ships between the process elements. Each of the NRC Conformance Review points shown on irigure 18E.1-1 is highlighted in the table, and the associated acceptance criteria for each review are established.
