Septe=ber 23, 1974 Facility: Browns Ferry nuclear Plant unit 1 Identification of Occurrence The HPCI inverter failed.
Conditions Prior to' Occurrence The reactor was in cold shutdown condition.
Description of Occu-- ence The "HPCI Inverter Failure" enhunciation was observed by thd operator. The inverter chassis Pase was found to be blown.
'Aro subsequent atte= pts to replace the fase resulted in blown fuses.
Designation of Amarent Cause of Occurrence A capacitor, cc=ponent C2, in the inverter filter network failed.
Analysis of Occu-rence At the time of the inverter failure, the reacter uns in cold shutdown; and the HPCI system was not repaired to be operable. The inverter failure caused no damacc to c~.y syste=s, cc ponents, or structures. There vere no adverse effects on the health or safety of the public as a result of this failure.
_ Corrective Action The inverter unit was replaced,by the unit 3 inverter.
Failure Data The capacitor was ---ufactured by Sprague Electric Cc=pary with the fo11ow1r.g nameplate:
