FOLLOWUP REPORT FOR ABNORPAL OCCURRENCE REPORT BFAO-50-260/7425W BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 2 As stated in the Corrective Action section of Abnormal occurrence Report BFAO-50-260/7425W, the intake and discharge valves on standby liquid control pump 23 were inspected. The inlet and outlet valves for two of the three cylinders were found to be in satisfactory condition. Both inlet and outlet valves for the other cylinder vere found to be badly pitted. These valves were refaced and then lapped in. Upon completion of the inspection and repair, the SLC pu=p was retested and it operated satisfactorily. It is believed that foreign materici passed through the pump, damaging the inlet and outlet valves '

on one cylinder and prevented the pump frc: pumping its rated flow. The loss-of an inlet or outlet valve on the scr.e cylinder could reduce the 50-com rated capacity of the pump to a value below the 39 gpn required in the technical specifications. The pump inlet and outlet valve chenbers and the discharge j check valve were inspected for foreign material. Hone was found. Fcreign i r.aterial would nomily be washed through the lines to the test tank and drained out to a vaste drum.
