VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND' POWER CQMPANY NORTH-ANNA POWER STATION UNIT 1 REVISED OUTAGE SCHEDULES AND OPERATING CYCLES DUE TO STEAM GENERATOR -REPLACEMENT SCHEDULE CHAMQE
'In our letter datod August 6,1991 (Serial No. 91337A), we formed the NRC of our plans to move forward the replacement of the Nor1h Anna Unit 1 steam generators from 1995 to 1993. The attachment to this letter provides our current outago schedule for 1992 and 1993 for North Anna Unit 1. The revised schedule reflects shortened operating cycle lengths for the current (Cycle 9) and the next (Cycle 10) operating cycles for North Anna Unit 1. These changes were made to minimize the overalt Virginia Power nuclear outage time in 1993.
By letter dated March 7,1991, the NRC provided formal approval for restart of North Anna Unit 1 from the _991 refueling outage. However, due to several remaining open 1
issues, the NRC concluded that there was only adequate technical basis at that time to justify plant restart and operation of the steam generators for up to 10 calendar months. In response, we submitted the North Anna Unit 1 Steam Generator Operating Cycle Evaluation Report to the NRC on August 6,1991.
This report provides resolution of the open issues and technically supports a full cycle of operation (18 months or until approximately September 4,1992) for Cycle 9 for North Anna Unit 1.
A timely-determination is needed by the NRC with respect to our August 6,1991 submittal and our current schedule for the 1992 refueling / tube Inspection outage
-schedule, it is impo.1 ant to note that should the NRC not concur with our reauest to operate North Anna Ur.!! 1 until the spring of 1992, we may then need to shut down North Anna _ Unit 1 as early as December 1991 due to other scheduled outages and anticipated system load demands.
