The purpose of this report is to provide written notice of fish killed when impingeu en the Brovns Ferry nuclear Plant unit 1 intake screens.

This report is required by section h.l.2(f) of our envircrrental -

technical specifications. O P

These incidents were reported to the Region II Regulatory Operations k Office by telephone or telegrs= within a short time after each occur- --

rence. Each of these incidents occurred while vashing the circulating i vater pump traveling screens at the pumping station and was similar  ;

to the occurrences previously reported. These incidents occurred -

during a 10-day test period being carried out by TVA personnel to r-more accurately determine the causes and the significance of fish -

impingenent. Some of the esticates of the fish impinged shown below are an actual count of the total fish impinged on the six intake _

screens which were in use at the time. The remaining estimates were -

determined as described in our letter dated August 17, 1973 Fish -

are being sized during this study period and the majority of the "

shad minnovs were in the 50- to 100-tm class. The tabulation belov  :

gives the date of each occurrence and the estimates of the fish impinged. On those occasions when two consecutive occurrences were "

reported to AEC at the same time they were assigned the same number.
