Dear Mr. O' Leary:

By letter dated June 14, 1974, Consumers Power Company submitted Abnormal Occurrence Report A0-10-74 concerning the Palisades Plant steam generator. This report was preliminary in nature and we stated both in the cover letter and in a meeting with members of the Directorate of Licensing staff on June 12, 1974 that we would provide a schedule concerning the dates that additional information would be submitted. This letter is written to provide the schedule and also a brief report of the investigative status.

Consumers Power Company will submit the results of the eddy current testing and the results of the investigation into the plant chemical history to the Directorate of Licensing by July 9, 1974. We will submit the tube plugging criteria and the results of the metal-lographic and corrosion ane'.ysis being performed by Battelle Memorial Institute by July 22, 1974 These submittals will comprise the total information submitted to the Directorate of Licensing unless other information is requested.

The present status of the Palisades Plant as of Monday, June 24, 1974 is as follows:

Steam Generator A

1. Eddy current test hot leg probing is 30% complete.

l 2. Expect to start cold leg probing this week.

Steam Generator B

1. Nominal 100% eddy current test hot leg probing is complete.
2. Cold leg eddy current test probing is 50% complete.
3. Expect to conduct some ultrasonic tests on selected hot leg tubes this week. i- gy h O

compiled at the site.

Metallographic and corrosion analysis investigations on removed Steam Generator A tube samples are being conducted by Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, Ohio. Preliminary findings are to be presented at Consumers Power Company's offices in Jackson on June 27, 1974 A brief status report will be submitted weekly until the Directorate of Licensing review is completed.
