NPF 4 NPF-7 Gentlemen:

VIRGINIA ELECTRIC AND POWER COMPANY

- NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS 1 AND 2 PROPOSED CHANGE TO HEALTH PHYSICS CONTINUING TRAINING CYCLE On November 4,1987, Virginia Electric and Power Company responded to the Notice of Violation identified in Inspection Report Numbers 50 338/339 87-24. As part of this response, we described the duration of our continuing training cycle for Health Physics technicians as two years. The description of our two year training cycle was intended to explain the Health Physics technicians ability to respond to radiation monitor alarms. it was not a Notice of Violation response commitment nor a proposed corrective action.

. We intend to revise the Health Physics technician training cycle duration to three years. Health Physics instructors report that the existing two year cycle for training on required topics places emphasis on these topics out of proportion to other training and does not allow depth of coverage desirable in systems training.

Given the above, we feel that conduedng Health Physics continuing training _on a three year cycle will enhance the training by allowing better articulation and more detailed coverage of the continuing _ training topics, if you have any questions or require additionalinformation, please contact us.

Very truly yours, W. L. Stewart g
