'PAGE 2 EVENT DESCRIPTION CONTINUED Heat Generation Rate (MAPLHGR) curves presently in Section 3.5.i of the Quad- ,

Cities Station Technical Specifications. ,

Both quad-Cities Station units operate considerably below the MAPLHGR limits set forth in the Technical Specifications. Normally, at full power, the Average Planar Linear Heat Generation rate is 85% of the MAPLHGR. A 4%

reduction in the limits only affects the margin between the actual heat I generation rate and the maximum allowed heat generation rate; therefore, the consequences of this occurrence are minimal.

Presently, the station is awaiting further information from General Electric Company concerning the final resolution of this matter. (R0 50-254/76-38)

' Corrective Action Taken To Prevent Recurrence I

- The MAPLHGR curves presently used by the process computer were reduced by 4% on December 15, 1976 for both Units One and Two. This will remain in effect until further information is received by the Station.

. Failure Data A similar occurrence was reported under Report Ro 50-254/76-27, which identified an error in the ECCS Analysis. This caused a reduction in the APLHGR limits at reduced core flows.
