Interim 10CFR50.55(e) Report; Service and Circulating Water Pumphouse Structural Inadequacy

Dear Sir:

In References (c), (d), (e), and (f), we filed Interim 10CFR50.55(e)

Reports regarding a deficiency in the structural design of the reinforced concrete walls separating pump cells in the Category 1 Service Water and Circulating Water Pumphouse. The following information is being filed pursuant to the Interim Reporting Provision of 10CFR50.55(e)(3).

Reference (f) identified the existence of cracks at the ends of

! stiffening sisbs. These cracks were determined to be caused by the following shrinkage phenomenon:

l

1. Normal curing of newly placed concrete.
2. Expansion / contraction due to imbient temperature variations.
