Dear Mr. DeYoung:
This letter is in reply to your letter of september 26, 1972 which was received la this offies on osteber 2, 1972. The regemeted review, to determine if failure of non-Category I (==i==4a) ognisment could result la fleeding or the release of chemicals adversely affecting safety-related
' ~ gi equigunent, has been made.

Circulating water system' piping is below grade elevation +18 feet. A pipe break oculd flood the aa=d====*
tube pull pit shown on FSAR Figure 1.2-5.
However, the outdoor design would permit runoff without effect om safety-related equipment. -
2 Failure of the fire protection system piping presents ao difficulty emospt in the east-west corridor of the Aus111ary Buildier. A break there might wet meter control: centers in the corridor but these are booked up by;re-d=ad==t g-in ^. La other locations. h possibility of commen mode failure of redundant systems due to fire protection system piping failure does not exist, unter spilled on the floor would go to fleer drains and also could run into resides 1 heat removal pump rooms,-but these have sump level alarms which are ammumeisted in the control reen to alert operators of an abnormal condition.
Failure of intake ocoling water discharge piping from the component cooling water heat *=ah==gers would erente no adverse effect, as water would flow outdoors and run off as does rainwater. Pipe trenches shown on FSAR Figure 1.2-3 are blooked to prevent flow into the Aemillary smilding. Those la the component oceling system rooms are blocked at the west end, and those in the safety i_njectica pump room are hiaah=A at the east end..All other entrances into the Ammillary Building are closed by doors (maintained in the closed
}[)
position by administrative procedures) with watertight sills to prevent water from entering the struotare.
h review disclosed no condition where any release of chemicals used in the f
plant would affect safety-related equipment. The review has shown no need Ik fer design changes.
