Dear Mr. Crutchfield:

Subject:

Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Statica Docket No. 50-219 Isolation Condenser Vent Installation In your letter of January 17, 1984, it was requested that GPUNC provide additional information to justify delaying the installation of vents on the isolation condensers until the next refueling outage (Cycle 11).

GPUNC provided a response to this request on March 27, 1984.

The purpose of this letter is to clarify some of the information contained in the March 27, 1984 submittal. This clarification was requested by Mr. Mark Wigdor of your staff and consists of the following information.

First, it is the position of GPUNC that, during the next cperating cycle, the existing isolation condenser vent flow path would be utilized whenever deemed necessary and until such time as the new vent line to the torus is installed and operational (Cycle ll).

Second, in response to a question regarding the Probabilistic Risk Analysis for Oyster Creek, the total frequency of core damage caused by approximately 9 x 10 -5,er year. g seismic, fires, floods, etc.) is internal events (that is excludin p

And third, estimates obtained from our Project Engineering staff show that the installation of the new Isolation Condenser vent line to the torus would extend the present outage an additional six months.
