Your undated letter addressed to the U. S. JLtonic Enerfy Concission.

LTashington, D. C., has been referred to this office for reply.

The Atcaic Energy Commission is directly responsible for assuring that the public health and safety are not affected adversely by the

mis-use of atomic energy. As a part of the Atcaic Inergy Connission, this r.egional office is responsible for conducting inspections at the Jeracy Central Power & Light Company's reactor at Forked River, New Jersey - the reactor referred to in your letter.

This office conducts frequent inspections of the Jersey Central Power &

Light Coepony's reactor. If our inspectors find conditions which are in violation of the regulations of the Atomic Energy Cos, mission, or which may affect the well-being of the public. I can assure you that proept l

corrective action is taken and verified by this office. Our inspections include inspections by our Environmental & Radiological Protection Branch.

This Eranch conducts surveys in the area outside the reactor plant and checks tha records of the plant's operations to assure that releases of radioactive caterial are within the limits of our regulaticus and are as low as practicable.

I want to assure you that we are most concerned about the public welfare in regard to the effects of the use of atomic energy. This is a responsi-bility we take very seriously. It is our finding that the Jersey Central Powr & Light Company's reactor at Forked River, New Jersey is operating in a satisfactory manner and is not endangerir.g the public health and welfare.

Your interest and concern on the effects of atomic energy are sincerely appreciated.
