Positive Displacement Charging Pump Discharge Damper
Dear Mr. Johnson:
On March 10, 1984, Mr. H.K. Chernoff of Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) reported a potential 10CFR50.55(e) deficiency to Mr. William Johnson, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Region IV.
The deficiency was
-identified as possible weld defects and nonconformances on the discharge damper tank for the positive displacement charging pump.
The potential defects include visible indications of inclusion, under-cutting and inadequate penetration.
If these initial indications are valid, the defects (if lef t uncorrected) could have compromised the integrity of the damper tank. This matter is currently under evaluation by KG&E.
The status of this potential 10CFR50.55(e) will be carried on the monthly status update as file 53564-K130. The final report or any significant information will be submitted by separate correspondence.
