Gentlemen:
Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 3 Draf t SER, Chapter 18.0
(
Transmittal of The Safety Parameter Display System Safety Analysis Report in Reference (1), Northeast Nuclear Energy Company submitted an integrated schedule for Millstone Unit No. 3 to implement the provisions of Supplement I to NUREG-0737. Included in that schedule was a commitment to provide the NRC Staff with a Safety Analysis Report for the Safety Parameter Display System (SPDS) by April 2,19b4.
The purpose of this submittal is to fulfill that commitment, thus closing out one of the two open items within Chapter 18.0 of the NRC Draf t SER (Reference (2)).
It is our understanding, per handouts received at the February 22,1983 regional workshop on Supplement I to NUREG-0737, that the NRC Staff will indicate acceptance of the SPDS SAR within approximately two months.
Since we have already provided the NRC Staff with our SPDS implementation schedule in Reference (1), we have not included one in this submittal. We do intend to provide the NRC Staff with periodic (i.e., approximately every six (6) months) status reports regarding Supplement I to NUREG-0737 as identified in Reference (1).
The submittal of the CRDR Summary Report by November 1,1984 should close out the remaining open item within Chapter 18.0 of the NRC Draft SER. Based 03 paumw s
upon this commitment, we believe it is appropriate that this item be listed as confirmatory in the NRC final SER.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
Very truly yours, NORTHEAST NUCLEAR ENERGY COMPANY W.' G. Sounsil Senior Vice President o
