SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE UNIT TWO DECEMBER, 1983 12-1 to 12-25 Unit 2 entered the month at a power level of 729 MWe and operated continuously until the morning of the 25th when a chain of events caused the reactor to scram. The events were initiated when a large door stuck in the open position during the minus 20 degree winter weather. The instrumenta-tion for the reactor feed pumps froze causing the feed pumps to trip thus causing low reactor water level and subsequent scramming of the unit. The door was eventually closed, the instruments thawed out, and unit startup initiated.

12-25 to 12-31 The unit was returned to service after some difficulty.

Problems developed with the main generator output breaker and one feed pump developed pump seal problems. By the end of the month the unit reached a power level of 817 MWe with a capacity factor of 86.78% and an availability of 96.24%.

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE UNIT THREE DECEMBER, 1983 12-1 to-12-31 Unit 3 was shutdown for the entire month for its scheduled refueling and equipment overhaul outage. Major work includes:

1)

H.P. Turbine and main generator overhaul

2) Inaervice inspection of welds
3) ISHI of recire. pipe welds
4) LPRM removal and replacement
5) CRD removal and replacement 1
