interval Pump and Valve Inservice Testing Program Gentlemen:

This letter is being submitted to notify the NRC that Relief Request No. 51 VRR-1 for the Limerick I

Generating Station (LGS), Units 1 and 2, First Ten Year Interval Pump and Valve inservice Testing (IST) Program is no longer necessary, and is being deleted from the LGS, Units 1 and 2, i

j This Relief Request was originally submitted as part of the original IST Program submitted to the

)

NRC for review and approval by letter dated November 23,1988. Relief Request No. 51-VRR-1 requested relief from the requirements specified in Section XI of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler and Pressure Vessel (B&PV) Code conceming the frequency for exercise and stroke time testing of valves installed in the Residual Heat Removal (RHR) system. The NRC subsequently approved this Relief Request as documented in a letter dated March 5,1991, which issued the Safety Evaluation Report (SER) and supporting Technica!

l Evaluation Report (TER) for the LGS, Units 1 and 2, First Ten-Year interval IST Program.

However, after further evaluation, we have determined that the RHR system valves associated

[

with Relief Request No. 51 VRR-1 can be downgraded to a " passive" safety classification, and therefore, these valves and this Relief Request can be deleted from the LGS, Units 1 and 2, IST Program.
