SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE UNIT TWO NOVEMBER, 1983

~

Il-l to 11-11 Unit 2 entered the month at a power level of 818 MWe and t

operated continuously until November lith when the unit was manually shutdown for a Mid-Cycle examination.

11-11 to 11-13 The Mid-Cycle exactnation was required due to the previous refueling outage when cracks were discovered in several recirculation piping welds. At that time weld overlays were applied to ensure minimum wall thickness. UT examina-tion during this outage found no apparent changes in the affected welds with respect to crack growth.

This shutdown also required snubber inspection due to several which were found defective during the previous refueling out-age. All drywell snubbers were visually inspected. The instrumented snubbers were also monitored during the shutdown and startup of the reactor unit. No defects roted.

11-13 to 11-16 The unit was returned to service but only operated briefly.

During normal unit operation the NSO changed the condensate booster pumps to a different operating lineup. The discharge check valve on the pump just started failing to open causing a low pressure auction trip on the Rx feed pumps, thus the reactor scrammed on low water level.

SUMMARY

OF OPERATING EXPERIENCE - Con't UNIT TWO l

Il-16 to Il-24 The unit wa's once again returned to service but never

~

reached full pow'er. Leakage in the drywell increased which i

required a unit shutdown on the 21st. A feedwater check valve developed a gasket leak between the valve body and top After repairs, the unit was returned to service.

cover.

Il-24 to Il-30 The unit operated at a reduced power level for several days due to reactor feed pump bearing and seal problems. By months end the unit reached 724 MWe with one of the three pumps.out of service and being repaired.

Unit 2's monthly capacity factor was 62.55% with an avail-ability of 78.32%.
