Acting Technical Secretary Michigan Water Resources Commission Stevens T. Mason Building P.O. Box 30028 -

Lansing, Michigan 48926 Re: D. C. Cook Nuclear Plant NPDES Permit No. MI 0005827 Groundwater Limitation

Dear Mr. Marks:

A review of our NPDES monthly monitoring report revealed that on two occasions total suspended solids samples from heating boiler blowdown prior to mixing with cooling water were 148.6 mg/l and 107.1 mg/l on October 18 and 20 respectively.

Both nuclear units were out of service requiring the use of the heating boiler.

Since the heating boiler had not been in use for some time, the blowdown effluent samples were not considered to be representative.

Cook Nuclear Unit #1, which was out of service since July 15,1983, was restarted on October 24, 1983.

Power ascension after this extended outage was completed on November 2,1983.

During this start-up period, when the starting flashtank was in operation, no sampling point was available.

No sampics were obtained for October 24, 265 28, 30 and 31.

Since 100% power was reached, blowdown sampling has been performed as required.

t Very truly yours,

[
