Interim Potential 10CFR50.55(e) Report -
Compromised Welding Inspector Examinations
Dear Mr. Gagliardo:
This letter provides an interim report on the investigation and evaluation of the compromised Level II Welding Inspector Examination. This matter was re-ported as a potential 10CFR50.55(e) item on July 12, 1982, and interim status reports were provided in the References.
Reference 1) and Reference 2) described the program underway to evaluate this concern and, to date, no findings have been identified which would have adversely affected safety had they gone uncorrected. Only one of the original 67 inspectors potentially involved is still under evaluation. Reinspections of welds accepted by this individual during the time period in question will continue until sufficient information is available to conclude this matter.
The status of this investigation and evaluation will be reported to you on or before March 2, 1984. In the interim, please direct any questions concerning this subject to me or to Mr. Otto Maynard of my staff.
