BRUNSWICK STEAM ELECTRIC PLANT, UNIT NO. 2 DOCKET NO. 50-324 LICENSE NO. AND DPR-62 INSPECTION OF STAINLESS STEEL PIPING Desr Mr. Vassallo:
As requested by members of your staff, Carolina Power & Light Company (CP&L) submits the enclosed information (Table 1) concerning the shrinkage residual stress effects f rom the weld overlays recently completed on Brunswick Unit 2.
The stresses involved are extremely low and consequently do not. invalidate the previous flawed piping analysis results.
Additionally, CP&L hereby commits to submit to the NRC plans for inspections, corrective actions and/or modifications (including the potential replacement of recirculation and/or primary coolant pressure boundary piping) intended to be performed during the refueling outage scheduled to begin about April 30, 1984, at least 30 days prior to the-start of that outage.
Justification for continued operation of Brunswick Unit 2 will be submitted to the NRC for review and approval at least 30 days prior to startup from the next refueling outage.
