Subject:

Nonconformance Reports

Dear Mr. Keppler:

NRC IE Inspection Report Number 50-461/83-14 questioned the adequacy of the large proportion of Nonconformance Reports (NCR) dispositioned use-as-is. Concern centered around the cumulative effects of NCRs dispositioned use-as-is. Illinois Power Company has completed a study of this category of NCRs. The study concluded that adequate calculations were available to support the use-as-is dispositions. A report has been issued, and it is available for review by NRC inspection personnel. -

Sincerely yours,

. . Hall Vice President JRS/jb cc: W. S. Little (Chief Engineering Branch 2, Region III)
