. Director of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Attention:
Mr. John F. Stolz Operating Reactors Branch No. 4 Division of Operating Reactors United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

Dear Mr. Stolz:
This letter is being submitted at the request of Mr. A. DeAgazio, Davis-Besse Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Project Manager, af ter discus-gion with him, on the status of certain Three Mile Island (TMI) Lessons Learned Items (NUREG 0737) for the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1.
As discussed in your Order dated March 14, 1983 (Log No. 1245) confirming our commitments, the schedule for completing Item II.B.3 concerning Post-Accident Sampling is December 31, 1983. The two sub-categories of this item were the Post-Accident Sampling System (Reactor Coolant System sample panel) and containment air monitor grab sample, which were the only items requiring further work to complete. These two items are being functionally r.

tested and are expected to be operational by December 31, 1983.
t Also discussed in your Order ir the schedule for completing Items II.F.1.1 l'
and II.F.1.2, accident monitoring for noble gas and iodine / particulate sampling. The installation of the station vent monitors was initiated i
following the-1982 refueling outage. However, continued equipment failures l
and problems affecting functionality of the monitors, equipment turn-around l-times, and vendor responsiveness have impeded progress for the installation-l and testing of the station vent stack monitor. Many of these problems required significant troubleshooting, additional engineering development, and field work to implement the resolutions. The current schedule projects completion of installation and testing by December 31, 1983, however, this leaves no contingency in the schedule if further problems arise or if the solutions we have implemented to known problems prove ineffective.
