R 27 04/16/90 CHANGE:

DPERATING llPSI SYSTEM OPERATION 1.0 PURPOSE 1.1 Provide a basic description of systcm components.

1.2 Provide procedural steps necessary for proper system operation.

2.0 SCOPE 2.1 Normal operations for this system include:

2.1.1 System initial fill and vent

\\

2.1.2 Normal Et>T AS system alignment

\\

2.1.3 Aligning 2P89C for "B" Standby

\\

2.2 Tests for this system include:

2.2.1 Quarterly surveillances on each pump.

2.2.2 Various valve strokes 2.2.3 System integrity testing

3.0 DESCRIPTION

3.1 Components 3.1.1 IIPSI Pumps (2P89 A, B and C) are 9 stage centrifugal pumps with a shutoff head of ~ 1500 psi. They are powered from EST buses 2A3 and 2A4, with 2P89C capable of being powered from either bus to make it the " Swing" pump. Each pump has a recirculation path back to the RWT and a recirculation path back to the pumps suction. These paths minimize the chance of pump damage when operating against a shutoff head.

3.1.2 IlPSI flow Control Valves are provided to allow throttling of flPSI flow to each RCS. cold leg. There are 8 valves total, 4 on each header.

3.1.3 Th Injection valves, used in conjunction with the llPSI Orifice Bypass Valves are used to provide some injection of water into the hot legs after a LOCA.

3.1.4 The flow testricting orifices (2FO-5101, 2FO-5102) are sized to preclude excessive pump runout.

3.2 Actuation

The actuation command for llPSI comes from the ESFAS system upon, receipt of 2-out-of-4 low pressurizer pressure or high containment pressure signals.

IIPSI actuates in conjunction with LPSI. Upon actuation, the following components either start or go to the following positions:

3.2.1 2CV-5630-1 and 2CV-5631-2 previously open, (RWT outlet valves) are normally supplying suction to the IIPSI pumps 2P89 A, B, & C.

3.2.2 The llPSI pumps A & B start, pressurizing both high pressure safety injection headers.

A.

C llPSI pump handswitch is normally in pull to lock, and must be manually started if needed.

3.2.3 2CV-5015-1, 5035-1, 5055-1, & $075-1 on header #1, and 2CV-5016-2, 5036-2, 5056-2, & 5076-2 on #2 header open, supplying flow to a combined LPSI/ilPSI header which dischstges to the loop Tc's downstream of the RCP's.

3.2.4 The normally open llPSI pump recirculation valves (2CV-5126-1, 5127-1 6 5128-1) will close on receipt of the recirculation actuation signal on low RWT level and will remain closed after RAS is reset..

The valves may be opened by rotating the appropriate ha:4dswitch(es) to "CLOSE" then to "0 PEN".

3.2.5 overr!de: To override or block SIAS, the operator may go to

" PULL TO LOCK" on the pump handswitches or to "0 PEN" then to the desired position on the injection flow control valves.

Both cases will generate an alarm in the Control Room telling the operator that the SIAS signal has been blocked.

FOR INFORMATION ONLY 10.0 TEST 1No Testing of the HPSI system includes surveillance of the llPSI pumps, valves, and associated components in accordance with Technical Specifications and ASME Code Section XI requirements.

10.1 Pump Testing The HPSI pumps (2P89A, B, C) are tested per Supplements 1, 2, cnd 3 through the pump discharge minimum flow recirculation line to the RWT (no other flow path).

10.2 Valve Stroke Testing Safety related power-operated valves in the system are stroke tested quarterly per Supplement 4.

HPSI pumps A and B suction check valves (2SI-7A, 2SI-7B), and all three minimum flaw recirculation check valves (2SI-23A, B, C) are stroked during quarterly pump testing per Supplements 1, 2, and 3.

IIPSI pump discharge stop-checks (2SI-10A, B, C) llPSI Header #1 check (2SI-12), and combined liPSI headers penetration injection checks (2SI-13A, B, C, D), are assigned Cold Shutdown stroke category and are stroked per Supplement 5.

During stroking operations of the HPSI MOVs, the electrical " full-open" position (preset for flow-balance) in checked locally and compared against the required pre-set position.

Hot leg injection line check valves (2SI26A, 2SI26B 2S127A, 2S127B, 2S128A, 25128B) are stroke tested once every refueling outage per Supplement 6.

In addition, the li.p. Injection MOV's are stroke tested once every refueling outage per Supplement 6 to verify valve operability at the maximum AP, itPSI pump discharge pressure ~1500 PSI, RCS pressure at atmospheric.

10.3 System Integrity Testing An assessment of system integrity through the identification of Icakage sources and their subsequent reduction to minimum practical levels is performed per Supplement 7.
