- 1. Abstract ' 1 i
1.1 This manual is to serve as a guide in the installation and calibration of the lirt indicating switch assembly on Crosby's Style HB Dual Function l Safety Relief Valve. The lift indicating switch assembly is illustrated in Figure 1.

CAUTION AFTER THE LIFT INDICATING SWITCH ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN SET PER THIS PROCEDURE AND IF REMOVAL FROM THE VALVE IS NECESSARY FOR ANY REASON, RECALIBRATION AND RESETTING TO THIS INSTRUC-TION MUST BE PERFORMED. /
- 2. Electrical Loop Requirenenta
-2 2.1 The operative elements of the Lift Indicating Switch Assembly are instcument grade reed switches. All reed switches are highly susceptible to contact damage from transient overleading. All inductive, capacitive and other transient effects must be evaluated by the utility electrical "* E'-
designer before powering the switches. The maximum voltage, current and l power ratings at the switch may not be exceeded at any time without contact () failure. Incandesant lamps must be evaluated for excessive loading during filament heating. Alternating current may not be used in any situation due to induced magnetic fields and resultant contact failure. 2.2 When cable capacitance, etc., can result in unnacceptable transients, the working voltage or the working amperage must be reduced by incorporation of a solid state buffer, current limiting resistor, diodes or other su.itable means.
- 3. Disassembly of Cap Top 3.1 The cap top shall be removed from the valve cap by unthreading.

'ARE NOT INTERCHANGED. / #d'N 4.1 Thread the spindle nut (8) onto the valve spindle until it contacts the WV, OA dog. Back off the spindle nut (8) one-half (1/2) to one (1) turn and p t $
continue until slot in spindle nut (8) is in line with drilled hole in spindle. Place spindle nut cotter pin (9) through spindle nut (8) and spindle, and turn over ends of cotter pin (9). 4.2 Mount the cap adapter (1) with housing studs (3) installed by threading firmly into the valve cap. 4.3 ' Mount the indicator switch housing (2) to the cap adapter (1) and tighten all housing stud nuts (4). Lock wire housing stud nuts (4). Q 4.4 The switches shall be wired to the control board simulator as shown in Figure 4.

- 5. Lift Indicating Switch Calibration 5.1 Assemble the magnet assembly (11) and the lift indicating switch setting tool as shown in Figure 2.
5.2 Place the assembly from Paragraph 5.1 over the valve spindle nut (8) and I mount the housing cover (5) over the lift indicating switch setting tool by threading firmly into the indicator switch housing (2). CAUTION , THE MAGNET ASSEMBLY (PC. NO. 11) HAS A Il0LE USED FOR INDEXING THE MAGNET , POSITION. POSITION THE Il0LE IN THE dAGNET ASSEMBLY IN LINE WITH THE NOTCH IN THE TUBE (19)(SEE FIGURE 2). CARE SHOULD BE TAKEN THAT Tile l{ I SETTING TOOL AND MAGNET ASSEMBLY IS NOT ROTATED FROM THIS POSITION DURING , THE SETTING PROCEDURE, INSTALLATION AND LOCKING OF THE MAGNET LOCK NUT i (15). / i

5.3 Measure accurately (with depth micrometer if possible) the distance from i the top of the lift indicating switch setting tool to the top of the l

j i 5.4 Thread the adjusting nut onto the lift indicating switch setting tool until contact is made with the housing cover (5). - 5.5 Continue to turn the adjusting nut slowly, thus raising the lif t indicating switch setting tool and consequently the nagnet (12). i 1 / 5.6 Raise the magnet until the closed indicating lights (A and D) shut off. 4 Then reverse the direction of the adjusting nut, thus lowering the magnet, to the point wherr the A and D indicating lights relight. Record the j ; distance from the top of the lift indicating switch setting tool to the top ; of the housing cover (5) u. the same manner as Paragraph 5.3. j i 5.7 Dimdnsion A in Figure 3 will be the difference between the values recorded in Paragraph 5.3 and Paragraph 5.6 less .100". Machine the spacer (10) to this dimension. Q 5.8 Raise the lift indicating switch setting tool by hand, by grasping the knurled edge, enough to allow insertion of Calibration Block B, for the correct orifice valve, from Figure 6. The second lift indicating light on , the centrol board simulator should light up. Repeat this procedure with Calibration Block A. The second and third lift indicating lights should , light up. # l 5.9 Remove the calibration block and slowly lower the lif t indicating switch I. setting tool until the adjusting nut is again in contact with the housing cover (5). The second and third lift indicating lights should be off. The first indicating light should be on. # 5.10 If the lift indicating ifghts on the control board do not light and go off at the correct points repeat Paragraphs 5.1 through 5.9 and check electrical wiring. If lights still do not function correctly contact Crosby for resolution. ' 5.11 Remove the adjusting nut, housing cover and lif t indicating switch setting tool assembly. - 6. Final Assembly 6.1 Place the spacer .0) machined to Dimension A of Figure'3 calculated in Paragraph 5.7 on the spindle nut (8).
6.2 Place the magnet assembly (11) on the spindle nut (8) and lock in place with the magnet retaining nut (14). / CAUTION WHEN Tile MAGNET LOCK NUT (15) IS INSTALLED AND FULLY SEATED AGAINST THE MAGNET RETAINING NUT (14), Tile SLOTS ON THE SPINDLE NUT (8) S110ULD BE IN A POSITION S0 THAT THE LOCK' TABS ON PIECE 15 COULD BE BENT INTO THE SLOT AS SHOWN IN FIGURE 1. IF THE TABS CANNOT BE FITTED (BENT) AS DESCRIBED ABOVE, MACHINE THE LOWER FACE OF THE MAGNET RETAINING NUT (14), WilICH COMES IN CONTACT WITH THE MAGNET ASSEMBLY (11), UNTIL Tile TABS CAN BE BENT PROPERLY. IF MORE THAN 1/2" MUST BE MACHINED FROM PIECE 14, THE SWITCH *\Y HAVE BEEN IMPROPERLY ADJUSTED AND SETTING OF THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY SHOULD BE REPEATED PER SECTIONS 3 AND 4. ~ 0 6.3 Lock the magnet retaining nut (14) in place with the magnet lock nut (15) and bend one or more tabs over into the slots provided in the spindle nut (8). 6.4 Thread the housing cover (5) firmly back into place and lock wire to the y indicator switch housing (2). 6.5 Thread the cover plug (6) into place and wire to prevent its loss. 6.6 The switch should now be wired to the instrumentation as shown in Figure 5. s I I; i Y
