McGuire 1 DATE:

11/15/83 NARRATIVE SUbBIARY Month:

October, 1983 _

McGuire Unit I tripped on October 3rd. due to a fault in the generctor breaker B busline motor operated disconnect. The unit returned to service on October 6 and was limited to one bus and 50% power until the 10th. when the MOD was re-paired.

On October 6,' shortly after placing the unit on line,. the generator was tripped when a fire was noticed within the generator exciter cabinet. The reactor re-nained critical and the unit was returned to service within four hours.

McGuire Unit I was reduced to between 68 and 73% power on October 1 and 18 to run turbine acceptance tests.

Turbine governor valve problems limited the unit output to 93% from October 10

)-

through the end of the month.

Power was reduced to 50% on October 12 for a few hours when the 1A feedwater pump tripped due to water in a vacuum line.

Turbine valve movenent tests on October 14 and 21 required brief reductions to about 36% power due to limits imposed by the faulty governor valve.
