4 NRC hionthl) Opermtions Summary Peach llottom Atoinic Power Station June IW1 UNIT 2 At the start of the month, the 5tatio a was restrained from two-unit, simultaneous full power production because of thermal discharge limits,. Only three cooling towers wetc available, while four were required, given river water temperatures at the time. Maintenance perr.onnel were working around-the-clock to repair a fourth tower. The fourth tower was placed in senice on June 4.
Power remained nominal IW,1 frorn June 5 until June 7 when the 'A' recire pump seal failed. The unit was shut down until June 13 while repairs were made. The unit achieved nominal 1E;. power by June 16, and except for a control rod pattern adjustment, maintained that power level until June 27 wben it was rnanually shut down because ofloss of condenser vacuum.
The unit ended the month shut down with repairs to the steam jet air ejector in progress.
. UNIT 3 The unit began the month with power levels ranging between Iwl and 65'i in response to the thermal discharge limits discussed above.
On June 5, a contial rod was fouad to be uncoupled during control rod exercises. The rod could not be recoupled, so all four rods in its control group w:re inserted, reducing power to nominal 91% A control rod pattern adjustment was made the following day, enabling a return to nomin:1 %% power. An additiot alload reduction was made on June 8 to atten pt recoupling. That attempt was unsuccessful, and power levels were held between nomina 198% and 95% until Jurie 25, when load was reduced to nominal 61'1 for waterbox maintenance.
On June 26, the power level was returned to nominal 1(XG The unit ended the mi -'h at slightly les:, than 1pi power.
