Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
My letter of October 14, 1983 submitted Reportable Occurrence Reports R0-369/83-85 and 370/83-50 which dealt with a potential deficiency of seals at conduit connec-tions to safety-related equipment located in harsh environments. As part of the corrective actions given in the report it was stated that Duke intends to apply Dow Corning RTV 3145 sealant to the conduit fittings of the equipment to ensure that moisture will not penetrate the equipment / cable interface. Unit I was to be shutdown the weekend of October 29, 1983 to install the sealant, with Unit 2 shutdown scheduled for the weekend following return to service of Unit 1. However Unit 2 was inadvertently tripped October 26, 1983, and due to various plant consid-erations the decision was made to maintain Unit 2 in the shutdown condition in order to install the sealant. Therefore Unit I will now be shutdown to install the seal-ant the weekend following return to service of Unit 2 instead of prior to Unit 2 shutdown as stated in the report.
