MONTHLY OPERATING ACTIVITIES - SEPTEMBER 1983 Highlights:

The Unit entered the reporting period operating at 100% power.

During the period there was one outage and two major load reductions.

Details of these are in the Summary.

Total electrical generation was 735,750 MWH.

Summary:

9/1/83 Power reduction was initiated at 1645 hours0.019 days 0.457 hours 0.00272 weeks 6.259225e-4 months with the turbine generator being tripped at 2037 hours0.0236 days 0.566 hours 0.00337 weeks 7.750785e-4 months , followed by reactor trip at 2210 hours0.0256 days 0.614 hours 0.00365 weeks 8.40905e-4 months .

The reason for the outage was to allow entry into the lower containment for inspection of certain tie down features of the pressurizer enclosure ventilation system.

The existing installation was found to be adequate.

9/2/83 The Reactor was returned to criticality at 1155 hours0.0134 days 0.321 hours 0.00191 weeks 4.394775e-4 months .

The Reactor tripped from 2% power at 1615 hours0.0187 days 0.449 hours 0.00267 weeks 6.145075e-4 months due to Lo Lo Level in #22 Steam Generator.

The Reactor was returned to criticality at 1954 hours0.0226 days 0.543 hours 0.00323 weeks 7.43497e-4 months , followed by turbine roll at 2219 hours0.0257 days 0.616 hours 0.00367 weeks 8.443295e-4 months and Unit paralleled to the System at 2317 hours0.0268 days 0.644 hours 0.00383 weeks 8.816185e-4 months .

9/3/83 The Unit was loaded to 48% power by 0235 hours0.00272 days 0.0653 hours 3.885582e-4 weeks 8.94175e-5 months and held at this point due to an indicated Quadrant Power Tilt.

The Quadrant Power Tilt indication cleared and the Unit was loaded to 100% over a 14 hour1.62037e-4 days 0.00389 hours 2.314815e-5 weeks 5.327e-6 months ramp starting at 0614 hours0.00711 days 0.171 hours 0.00102 weeks 2.33627e-4 months .

9/6/83 Unit loading was reduced 20 MWe at 0325 hours0.00376 days 0.0903 hours 5.373677e-4 weeks 1.236625e-4 months when some of the pressurizer heaters tripped by thermal overload.

The heater breakers were reset and the Unit was returned to 100% power by 0610 hours0.00706 days 0.169 hours 0.00101 weeks 2.32105e-4 months .

9/14/83 Unit loading was reduced to 55% power over a 1-1/3 hour ramp starting at 0910 to remove the East Main Feedpump from service for maintenance.

Repairs were made and the pump returned to service.

The Unit was reloaded to 100% power over a 7-1/3 hour ramp starting at 2340 hours0.0271 days 0.65 hours 0.00387 weeks 8.9037e-4 months .

9/24/83 Unit loading was reduced to 98% power for testing of turbine valves.

Total time below 100% power was 4 hours4.62963e-5 days 0.00111 hours 6.613757e-6 weeks 1.522e-6 months .

9/26/83 The "AB" Emergency Diesel Generator was inoperable for a 10 hour1.157407e-4 days 0.00278 hours 1.653439e-5 weeks 3.805e-6 months 8 minute period due to maintenance.

9/27/83 The Preferred Off-Site Power Source to 4KV Auxiliary Power Buses 2A and 2B was inoperable for a 9% hour period while insulators were cleaned.

9/28/83 The Preferred Off-Site Power Source to 4KV Auxiliary Power Buses 2C and 2D was inoperable for a 6-3/4 hour period while insulators were cleaned.

Condenser halfs were out of service, one half at a time, for a period of 32-3/4 hours during the reporting period for the identification and repair of leaks.

The Control Room Cable Vault Halon System remained inoperable the entire reporting period.

The backup CO System remains operable.

2 The Control Room Fire Detection System remained inoperable the entire reporting period.

Hourly fire patrols are being conducted behind the control room panels.

.The CD emergency diesel jacket water surge tank was overflowing.

Replaced the float valve.

C&I-1 Bourdon tube ruptured inside pressure gauge from steam generator blowdown liquid process monitor, R-19.

The pressure gauge was replaced.

C&I-2 A " grounded circuit" indication was received on the turbine supervisory circuit for "CD" battery, which cleared when the i

associated feeder breaker was opened. A solenoid valve coil had shorted to ground.- After replacement of'the coil, the

" ground" annunciator cleared.

C&I-3 Pressurizer water level indicator channel 1, LI-459A, drifted j

higher than the other two channels by 6%. The level transmitter i -

' drain valve and cap were found Eto be leaking. The transmitter reference leg was refilled to restore correct level indication to NLI-459A.

C&I-4 Train A of the Solid State Protection System (SSPS) tested " bad" i

on logic switch 5502,. positions 7 and 10, (Reactor Coolant Pump i

Under Voltage). Universal Cord A-311 was replaced. Train A was then retested and found to be okay.
