SUBJECT:
EXCHANGE OF ELECTRONIC INFORMATION PILOT PROJECT REF:
NRC Letter dated February 23, 1995 to C. L. Terry
Dear Ms. Adensam:
We are indeed happy to participate in the Electronic Information Exchange (EIE) Pilot Project. We are grateful to you and Mr. Roe taking for such keen interest in this technology. We believe that EIE has the potential to reduce costs of activities that do not directly benefit safety. One area of great interest to us is having inspection reports and Notice of Violation available electronically, This will greatly assist the regulator and licensees in research of previous concerns and violations.
The obvious benefits of tracking problems from other plants and repeated problems from a single licensee assit both parties toward a safer industry. We believe this information is already electronically available within Region IV cver a period involving the last two years.
Early access to this historical information would save the current resources we are expending to scan these inspection reports into electronic form.

4 TXX 95077 Page 2 of 2 In order to achieve the most comprehensive outcome from this pilot, we suggest that one of the NRC regional headquarters be involved with the project. We believe that NRC Region IV would be amenable to direct involvement in the pilot, if they were so tasked. We would support such an effort working directly with Region IV personnel.
Sincerely,
