This letter serves as our interim report purcuant to 10CFR50.55(e) concerning cracks found in welds on actuator brackets.for motor operated exhaust louvers on the Diesel s

,. Generator Rooms' Ventilation, System'and the Emergency Service Water Pump House Venti-lation System.
Mr. J. Konklin was first noL3fied on February 3,1984 by Mr. s'.
Riley of The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company that this problem was being evaluated.
This report contains a description of the deficiency, the method planned to complete our evaluation and the planned date for the final report.
Description of Defic}ency, y Crackswerefoundinveldmonactuatormountingbracketsforall24motoroperated exhaust louvers on the %dits 1 add 2 Diesel Gener% tor Rooms' Ventilation Systems (M43) and all 4 motor operated exhaust louvers on the Units 1 and 2 Emergency Service Water Pump House Ventilation S) stem (M32).
In addition,,weid cracks were found in linkage tubes on 5 of the 28 louvers.

r These actuators and louvers were supplied'to riGbert Irsay Company, our HVAC installa-tion contractor under Specification 49-4549-00, by their subcontractor M.C.C. Powers who in turn purchased them from Construction fpecialties, Inc.
Method Planned to Complete Evaluation r

s Nonconformaivt Reports MCCF-0079 and MCCF.0082 have been issued by M.C.C. Powers to document the conditions found.
Project Organization is presently reviewing documen-tation associated with the fabrication of these louvers and brackets to assess the proEram used during fabrication.
Upon completion of this evaluation, the Nonconform-i ance' Reports will be dispositioned and resubmitted to the P.aoject Organization. These r
