Narbut and R. Tucker on August 30, 1983

Dear Sir:

The NRC was notified of a potentially reportable deficiency in the ref erenced telephone conversation. At that time, it was estimated that a determination of reportability would be made within thirty (30) days.

Due to the extensive investigation and evaluation required, an Interin Report is attached. It is now expected that this information will be finalized by November 29, 1983, at which time a complete report will be submitted.

PVNGS UNIT 2 1.

Potential Problem Inspection of Unit 2, Safety Radiation Monitoring Cabinets (Tag o

No's 2J-SQA-col) and 2J-SQB-C01 revealed that internal wiring is not in conformance with Class 1E separation requirements as defined in IEEE-384, Inspection of Unit 2, Post Accident Radiation Monitoring o.

Cabinets (Tag No's 2J-SQA-C05 and 2J-SQB-C05) revealed that internal wirirs is not in conformance with Class 1E separation I

requirements as defined in IEEE-384.

Both cabinets were supplied by Kaman Instrumentation Corporation.

Approach To and Status of Proposed Resolution i

Bechtel Engineering has contacted Kaman Instrumentation Corporatio n.

Kaman has responded that a field representative is scheduled to visit the PVNGS jobsite, the week of August 29, 1983, to review and determine corrective action required.

Based on Kaman representative's recommendations, Bechtel Engineering will issue Design Change Packages for the corrective action required.

III. Projected Completion of Corrective Action and Submittal of the Final Report Evaluation of this condition and submittal of the Final Report is Forecast to be completed by November 29, 1983.
