" Check Valve Failures in Raw Water Cooling Systems of Diesel Generators"
Dear Mr. Collina:
This report is the follow-up response to item 5 of the subject Bulletin.
The four service water check valves referenced in our June 10, 1983 letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are SW-35CV, 36CV, 37CV and 38CV. The valves were disassembled and inspected and the overall results indicated the valves had negligible wear and were functioning,
properly.
Detailed inspection of thu valve internals showed the seating surfaces and hinge pins had some minor pitting and traces of rust. The discs and hinge pins were dye penetrant tested for defects.
None were found.
The tolerances between the hinge pins and hinges were measured and found.to be normal. The valves were reasscmbled and returned to oper-ation.
As indicated in our initial response letter, all four check valves have been placed on a three year Inservice Test schedule to assure continued valve integrity.
