This report is the initial response to IE Bulletin No. 83-03:
Check Valve Failures In Raw Water Cooling Systems of Diesel Generators.
Cooling water to the diesel generators is supplied by the normally operating service water system. The check valves identified for an initial valve integrity verification and for inclusion in the plant Inservice Test (IST) program are SW-35CV, 36CV, 37CV and 38CV. All four valves will be disassembled and inspected during the present refueling outage.
The valves will also be opened and inspected on a three year IST schedule to assure continued valve integrity.
The service water check valves are 10 inch,150 lb. swing check valves manufactured by Anchor Valve Company.
The valves are installed in vertical piping runs and normally operate with full flow through the valves. There have been no previous failures of these valves.
