Waterford 3 SES Docket No. 50-382 SSER 4 Section 1.9
Dear Mr. Knighton:
Discussions have been conducted between members of my staff and NRC reviewers concerning the resolution of the turbine missile issue. Based on these discussions we have decided to take the following actions:
1.
A Turbine thintenance Program will be developed by LP&L and submitted for NRC review within three years of the issuance of our Operating License.
2.
If this maintenance program has not been approved by the staff at the time of the second refueling outage a volumetric examination of the turbine rotor will be conducted during the outage and during alternate outages thereafter until the program is approved.
3.
The Main Turbine throttle and governing valves will be subject to a valve maintenance program as described in NUREG-0800 Section 10.2.
Should subsequent analyses submitted by Westinghouse or LP&L demonstrate that less stringent maintenance and inspection programs will provide an adequate degree of safety, we reserve the right to modify the above actions accordingly.
